Professionals, Proud Supporters of the Child Cancer Foundation Appeal

This is an exciting year for Professionals as it also marks their 20 year partnership as a proud Gold Star Sponsor with the Child Cancer Foundation since their association in 1994.

Professionals Real Estate Group is incredibly passionate about the work the Foundation does for children and their families affected by cancer. We recognise that every week there are three children diagnosed with cancer; every year there are over 100,000 treatments, and for every treatment the child receives a Bead of Courage®. We truly admire the work the Foundation undertakes to ensure that ‘every child and their family walking the child cancer journey will never feel alone’.

The Foundation relies heavily on sponsorship and the goodness of the public to allow it to provide emotional, practical and financial support within local communities as it receives no direct government funding.  Did you know:

$300 buys a child with cancer and their siblings Beads of Courage®

$100 provides a family with a grocery top-up voucher

$50 provides a family with a St Johns Ambulance membership

$15 provides a family with a digital thermometer to take a child’s temperature

$10 provides a parent with a meal voucher for a hospital café

Professionals Real Estate Group are proud to be associated with the 2014 Appeal and since 1994 have raised over $4 million. These funds have gone towards the purchase of two Family Places in Auckland and Wellington, the purchase and maintenance of two Sunshine Lodge holiday homes in Taupo and Queenstown and in 2007 towards the purchase of a National Centre in Auckland.

Professionals, like the brave Child Cancer Foundation ambassadors below, would like to help make a difference and raise funds for the appeal.

This years Child Cancer ambassadors are:

Lauren   Lauren Hemingway - is 12, lives in Auckland, and is in treatment for CNS (Central nervous system) Germ Cell Tumour, after being diagnosed on May 1st, last year.  Lauren’s tumours were too dangerous to operate on so she went through six months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

One of the larger tumours destroyed Lauren’s pituitary gland and with radiotherapy has affected her ability to produce hormones and so the next phase of her treatment is to replace the hormones with the endocrine team.  She has 314 beads.

Jayme Leary - is five years old and lives in Christchurch.  He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 30 April, 2010 and spent 3 1/2 years on treatment finishing in July, 2013.  Jayme has 521 Beads of Courage.

Jayme’s Leukaemia treatment had a few bumps along the journey with infections ending in hospital stays, three portacath surgeries and a stint in isolation for a week with a severe case of chicken pox.

Quinn Hautapu - saw the back page in the Child Cancer Foundation’s Sharing Magazine for families and said "I want to be one of their stars!!!"

The eight-year-old Palmerston North girl’s cancer journey began when she became paralysed down her right side, in January, 2013.  Scans showed a massive brain haemorrhage (left side cerebrum). Emergency surgery removed a fist-sized blood clot, saving her life.
Quinn was subsequently diagnosed with a Primitive neuroectodermal tumour of brain (PNET). Quinn’s treatment has included high dose radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy and stem cell rescue. Her treatment finished in August 2013. Quinn has around 700 beads.

Professionals are proud to join Lauren, Jayme and Quinn to help other brave kids with cancer.

the Child Cancer Foundation Sponsorship

A major part of our commitment to the community is the on-going sponsorship we provide to the Child Cancer Foundation. Professionals Real Estate Group is a proud Gold Star Sponsor and has been in partnership with the Foundation since 1994. Over this time we have contributed in excess of $4 million.

Every week in New Zealand, three families are told their child has cancer. The Child Cancer Foundation supports these families from the very beginning and receives no direct government funding. They aim to reduce isolation and the impact of cancer by offering support services 365 days of the year. Ensuring children and their families are supported, informed and well cared for at every stage of their journey. Professionals Real Estate Group is incredibly passionate about the work the Foundation does for children and their families that are affected by cancer. We support the Child Cancer Foundation’s vision, ‘that every child walking the child cancer journey will never feel alone’.

Professionals have assisted with the funding of the Foundation’s Head Office, Holiday Homes in Taupo and Queenstown, Family Places in Auckland and Wellington, as well as contributing a donation from each property sale to the Child Cancer Foundation. Our offices around the country also host numerous fundraising activities and events to raise funds for this very worthy cause.

The holiday homes give children and their families coping with cancer an opportunity to take a holiday, relax, and spend time together to recuperate and enjoy themselves in a stress-free environment.

Quotes from visitors to the holiday homes

"I can't remember the last time we were all together, this has been so incredibly special for us."

"After 5 months treatment Hone was the most happiest and I will never forget the look of excitement in his eyes when we entered [Sunshine Lodge]."

"We would like to say a big thank you for your generousity at providing such a lovely home and holiday spot for all child cancer families to enjoy.  It was a real pleasure to stay at Sunshine Lodge. People like you make living with child cancer a bit more bearable."  - The O'Neill's.

Family Places

The family places are a base for children with cancer and families to take time-out from the hospital to meet other families, staff and volunteers in a caring and private environment.

Professionals Real Estate Group are very proud of what we have been able to achieve for the Child Cancer Foundation and look forward to the continuing support, contributions and providing more well used facilities.
